Pay per click advertising
Since the media revolution brought by the Internet, manufacturers and service providers strive really hard to advertise for their businesses on the Internet. And so far there is no match for that in terms of efficiency. Pay per click advertising represents one of the many forms of promoting a product or service on the world wide web. It refers to ads that are uploaded by search engines, blogs, advertising networks and regular web sites to make publicity.
The expression pay per click advertising indicates that businesses that advertise on site pay the host web site or blog for every click or access to the ad. If the ad doesn’t get clicks, there is no payment either. In the case of web sites that focus on informative content, the charge per click is fixed regardless of the how many times it gets accessed.
In the case of search engines, things with pay per click advertising get a little more complicated than with web sites because the system is different and advertisers have to go through a type of auction for the relevant keywords that would match their target markets; this means keyword bidding and the higher bidder wins. On the other hand, web sites rely on the list of phrases and keywords given by the advertiser in order to show an ad and the fixed charge makes it all easier.
When a web surfer types a keyword in a site quest box, the web site recognizes it and automatically shows the pay per click advertising links as there would be higher chances of gaining click-worth money. This type of advert is included in the category of sponsored links or ads and they may appear anywhere they would suit the advertiser.
Altogether there are many pay per click advertising providers and you can imagine the level of competition that there is between them. Three of the most important providers of such ads are Microsoft adCenter, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Google AdWords. The main difference between them consists in the costs per bid that advertisers have to pay for their ads, but since these three are the top notch of online advertising, their prices are definitely the highest.
There is also a bit of trouble with pay per click advertising as there is with anything involving finance and security over the Internet. There may be dishonest web developers and there may be the risk of abusive clicks; however, search engines that care about their customers are constantly implementing new new systems or updating the already installed ones meant to guard advertisers against these abuses.
